The difference Between Cyberattack, Cyberterrorism and Cyberwarfare

Cyberattack VS Cyberterrorism

Today, with so many cyber attacks occurring, we must know the difference between these attacks and the goals of each attack and the outcome.

First we will define each attack separately and then we will go into the details. In this article we will talk about Cyberattack and Cyberterrorism. We will also define cyberwarfare because it is important to know all the details.

Cyberattack

A cyber attack is a malicious third party who does not have the proper usage authority to work on a certain computer system, network, electronic device, etc. by illegal means to drive it to malfunction or stop, falsify or steal data, perform remote control, etc.

What is cyber warfare?

Some target specific organizations, groups, and individuals, while others indiscriminately attack an unspecified number of people.  What is done as a political demonstration is sometimes called "Cyberterrorism ", and what is done between nations is sometimes called "cyberwarfare".

Cyberattack goals

Specific activities include invading a Web server to tamper with the contents of a site, invading an information system to steal confidential information and personal information, and concentrating a large amount of access to drive a server or line into a malfunction. There are cases such as dripping (DoS attack / DDoS attack), illegally acquiring access authority and impersonating the person to operate the system, or disabling the system and demanding a ransomware to provide recovery means (ransomware). Can be mentioned.

How Cyber Attack works

There are two methods, one is for an attacker to directly act on the target system via the Internet to execute an attack, and the other is to infect malware such as a computer virus or Trojan horse and attack by the action.  There is also a method of combining both and sending a command from the outside to the sent malware for remote control.

Cyberterrorism

Among Cyberattacks, those that are carried out for the purpose of political demands, intimidation, demonstrations, etc. are called "cyber terrorism", or cyberterrorism for short.

Why use Cyber terrorism

Attacks using the Internet or computer systems performed by specific individuals or groups based on political intentions or motives, hitting the target, promoting political claims, demanding that they comply with some demand, or targeting It is sometimes referred to as retaliation for the actions of the side.

The Purpose of using Cyberterrorism

Attacks aimed at damaging government, military, mass media, social infrastructure, telecommunications networks, transportation, financial institutions, medical institutions, and other functions that are important to the state, society, human life, and property are typical, but websites. In attacks such as tampering and obstruction of activities (DoS attacks), the target may be selected extensively and indiscriminately just because it belongs to a specific nation.
