New Microsoft Feature


From today, you can sign in to Microsoft accounts using the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, a security key, or a verification code via SMS or email instead of a password.

Microsoft has been trying hard for years to work on this feature.  The epidemiological crises the world is going through today made Microsoft rush to launch this feature.

The company enabled security keys in 2018 and made Windows 10 passwordless in 2019.


When will this feature be launched?


The new option arrives just months after the company began rolling out passwordless authentication for commercial users in March to help people adjust to the reality of working remotely.

Microsoft employees use their accounts without passwords


Microsoft has notified its employees that they can log into their accounts without passwords.  According to statistics, all Microsoft employees are now using their accounts without passwords.

How to login without a password


First you have to install the Microsoft Authenticator mobile app, then link it to your Microsoft account to remove the password.

Second, after completing the first step, visit account.microsoft.com and do the following:

1. Choose Advanced Security Options.

2. Enable accounts without password in the Additional Security section.

3. Then accept the changes you made through the Microsoft Authenticator app.


Note:

If you don't like this feature, you can undo the changes you made and re-enable the use of passwords again for your accounts.

Removing the password in Microsoft accounts


Microsoft will release this feature to everyone next month, as Windows 11 will be launched on the fifth day of next month.

Speaking to Microsoft,  the company is working on a way to remove passwords for Azure AD accounts, with administrators set to be able to choose whether passwords are required, allowed, or not for specific users.

iOS 15 and macOS Monterey updates include Passkeys in iCloud Keychain.  This is in an effort to replace passwords with a more secure login process.
