What happened to Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram? is it a Cyber Attack | The Full story

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram are out of service

The most important social networking sites witnessed malfunctions hours ago, which led to the suspension of Facebook, “WhatsApp” and “Instagram”, as well as YouTube, Amazon and Twitter witnessed a glitch in some parts of the world, but it is less severe and was quickly bypassed, but what exactly happened.

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram

Facebook platform faced a big problem

Some Arab websites circulated the news of the hacking of Facebook by a Chinese hacker who is no more than 13 years old, noting that the news came from Reuters news agency, and after research it became clear that Reuters did not mention this news at all.

While cyber security experts have suggested that the reason for the downfall of Facebook and other platforms may be a cyber attack on the DNS servers table, and without these tables the servers cannot communicate with each other.

Facebook servers not working

While US media reported that some Facebook employees were unable to enter their offices due to the disruption of the electronic security systems to open the doors, as entry cards did not work to open the doors, which indicates that the damage is great and touched all systems and servers.

The New York Times reported that Zuckerberg sent a small team of employees to the company's data center in California to manually reactivate the company's servers, which led to the return of his platforms to work again, and the coming hours will reveal what happened in detail.

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram stopped and the reason!?

It has to do with DNS and Routing protocol. There was a BGP failure and due to this failure the servers could not communicate with each other. This is because the servers are connected to firewalls and names are translated to IP.  BGP (Border gateway protocol) denotes the transfer of this stuff.

When the servers stopped yesterday, I pinged Facebook but it didn't work because there was no Record in DNS.

What happened to Facebook and the rest of the applications?

In the case, the problem that occurred affected Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram.  This is because the entire Facebook infrastructure is connected to the public Internet connection.  And finally connected to the same infrastructure, which is called BGP (Border Gateway Protocol)

An attack targeting Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp!?

The attack targeted social networking sites. But Facebook announced that what happened was just malicious servers.
First, we must know the data warehouse
Another thing is the repository of servers in other countries.
Simply, if what happened to Facebook and Instagram were just servers and servers failures, Facebook would stop in the country where this server is located.  The problem is that Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram have stopped together in all countries of the world.

The reason behind stopping Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp!?

Yesterday, a former Facebook employee revealed some of the businesses the company supports.  Among these acts supported by the company are acts of violence and riots, especially at the time of elections.

Therefore, Facebook changed its algorithm under the name of server and infrastructure failure.  Facebook has changed some of its algorithms because they will be presented to Congress today.

Facebook changes after repairing servers

There were some changes in Facebook after the servers were fixed.  Among these changes are things such as posts that appeared suddenly for no reason.  Which says "Suggestions you may like".

What happened yesterday is whistleblower. And This word means:
A person who informs on a person or organization engaged in an illicit activity.

The person who reported is the employee who submitted papers against Facebook to the judge. These papers are evidence containing documents and digital evidence.
